Health & Intellectual Disability

Connecting health and intellectual disability systems, services and supports for
adults with intellectual disability

Health and intellectual disability support goes smoothly for people with intellectual disabilities when everyone communicates effectively.

HID Consultancy is the glue that makes it happen.

What’s it about

Adults with intellectual disability usually need disability support to access and participate in mainstream healthcare.

Often they do not receive either the healthcare or support they need.   This results in poor outcomes.  The situation can be improved.

Healthcare organisations and workers are not well connected with the disability organisations and workers that can help.

HID Consultancy is the glue that connects people and organisations in health with those in intellectual disability in their care of adults with intellectual disability.

  • It does this with health or disability organisations and working with people in their own setting by designing individualised systems, supports, refinements, processes, habits, practices, methods, problem solving and evidence-based strategies, adjustments for health and disability organisations and workers practices in order to achieve better health outcomes for people with intellectual disability who use their services.

  • It can also work with individuals with intellectual disability and their families in their own setting to find how their own disability supports services and their health care professionals and systems can work together for them

Who provides the service?

Robyn Wallace is the lead consultant of HID Consultancy.  She is a consultant adult physician in internal medicine in Hobart, Tasmania.  She has years of experience across the health and disability sectors playing roles in clinical, strategic, educational, policy, ethical, regulatory, academic, research, advocacy, governance services in relation to mainstream healthcare for adults with intellectual disability.

A major theme of our work is seeking ways and means for our highly valued health and disability organisations and workers to connect better, to share, to make reasonable adjustments, to satisfy respective sector clinical governance frameworks in health, the NDIS and disability government legislation, to successfully cross fertilise the other with values and valuable policy and process among the sectors and workers so that they work better together.

How it works

Arrangements for a first formal 1-hour meeting can be made after initial enquiry contact. At the first formal meeting, the project is discussed including the aims, scope and expected outcomes.

  • 3. Quote

A written quote and project plan will be provided for agreement. A 25% payment is required at the commencement of the project, a further 25% at the half way mark and the rest on completion and delivery.

What are the costs?

The charge for the first formal meeting is half price. Thereafter an hourly rate ($400 per hour) or contract will be negotiated.
